the mouth of the Tagus was the next discernible landmark on the Portuguese coast viewed from the deck of a P&O steamer and painted here from sketches made in 1850

At Point de Galle P&O established another agency and coal depots for onward journeys

Whilst still on the stocks P&O's MEDINA (1911) was requisitioned for His Majesty's service
