Inspired by the Hawkmoth, aka, the Death's Head moth, I thought the exoskeleton of a Cicada, really lent itself to the design as a sculptural, hard surface reimagining. I scanned an actual Megapomponia cicada specimen, using macro photogrammetry as the basis for this model.
