The white border around the artwork is left so it is easy for the framer to frame right up to the artwork. Any smudges on the border will be hidden by a mat when framing. This winter I have been spending a lot of time in the studio using pastels. The French Impressionists are a major influence at the moment. My reference photo was taken in summer.
