Reverse carved crystal was a technique created by cutting pieces of rock quartz crystal into a convex form and then polishing it into a cabochon shape

The piece hangs from a rectangular shaped link which carries the complimentary design found on the urn and the entire locket/pin hangs from large bail which is also detailed in an ornate micro mosaic image

The gold spears measure between 1/2" to  3/4" in length

CARL SCHON Vintage Large Sterling Seahorse Pin Sapphire When turned in the lightCarl Schon was a Baltimore based jeweler in the 1920s who became famous for his designs in sterling silver. His most famous designs were detailed depictions of seahorses, however, he also incorporated other works into his repertoire. His company made use of stones and jewelry imported from Europe and created custom designs, often by plating actual seahorses in silver or gold, and then incorporating the customer's name into the piece.
