The design of the flag is very symbolic of the state

as well as plaster

To the Zia people it symbolizes The Circle of Life:  the four directions

The original was done with transparent washes of acrylic paints that allowed the map to show through

Florida Fair Winds and Following Seas (canvas wrap) aspen The design of the flagThe original Florida Fair Winds and Following Seas was painted on a nautical chart of the Straits of Florida showing the southern tip of Florida, the Bahamas and Cuba. The three sailboats racing was a nod to how much these places are tied to the sea and sailing. This is one of my favorite of the eight Florida map paintings. My Uncles own the original and have it displayed in their dining room in Ft. Lauderdale so I'm fortunate to be able to see it
