These forests are so lush, and the giant sequoias can grow to such incredible sizes, because of the unique climate on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The mountains act as a barrier to moist air from the Pacific, and the forests are frequently covered in thick fog, creating the perfect growing conditions. I took this photo
