Victorian Japonesque Silver Brooch Victorian the Museum of Indian ArtsIn the second half of the 19th century, after Japan was opened to the West for trade, Japanese imagery became popular in the decorative arts and this silver brooch is splendid example. Most pieces in the Japonesque style tend to be rather flat, with engraved imagery sometimes enhanced by flat metal overlay; this piece however, has a three dimensional crane and willlow tree, with added engraving delineating the marshy background, feathers, and leaves.
