This is one of the showiest of Ontario's native shrubs, a plant of forest edges and rocky outcrops that produces flowers disproportionately large for its modest stature. Glen rendered it with the botanical completeness he brought to all his wildflower subjects: the wrinkled petals, the clustered stamens, the specific leaf venation.
